New Book: Georg Semler – BEING A FREEMASON
Ein Buch im Herbst 2026 für eine „Welt im Zeitenbruch“, wie es im Untertitel heißt.
Climate change, shifts in the global economy, politics and society, rapid technological developments—all of this is causing people increasing concern. According to the Grand Master of the GROSSLOGE VON ÖSTERREICH, it follows that principles are needed that one keeps consciously in mind, and moreover “places where these principles are practiced, because a principle one merely knows is not at hand in an emergency—the lodge is such a place”—also for practicing an “attitude toward life in a world undergoing an epochal shift.”
The book also explains how one becomes a Freemason and what takes place at lodge meetings. It thus makes clear how absurd conspiracy narratives about the alleged “secret society” are. In the book’s three major parts—“The Foundation”, “The Workshop”, “The Attitude”—Georg Semler sets out many aspects of what Freemasonry truly consists of, what our understanding of values looks like, and where the touchstone lies for each individual Freemason.
Who is the book addressed to? Semler: “I am writing it for people who ask themselves such questions, for the curious as well as the sceptical … and at the same time I am writing it for Freemasons who want to know how our aspirations are expressed in concrete terms.” For, says the Grand Master: “Freemasonry is an ethics of relationships in the broadest sense: an ethic of the relationship to myself, to others and to the world, for an enlightened way of life, as free as possible from violence and illusion.”
The book has been published by Edition Lapis: ISBN 978-3-9504543-8-3
